Glossary

Decarboxylation

The heat-driven chemical conversion of THCA into THC. Without it, cannabis is not intoxicating.

Raw cannabis contains THCA, not THC. Smoking, vaping, or baking supplies the heat that removes a carboxyl group and produces THC.

This is why edibles require the plant material to be heated before infusion, and why eating raw flower does nothing.

Also written as: decarb.
